India Beat Bahrain 4-3 to Stay Top of Group K at FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival Azerbaijan 2026
BAKU, AZERBAIJAN, OCT 26: India edged Bahrain 4-3 in a thrilling encounter at the FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival Azerbaijan 2026 on Monday to retain the top spot in Group K. The match was played at the Hovsan Competition Complex, Pitch 9A, in Baku.

Macdonnish Ngairangbam (16’) and R Lalremruatfela (19’) put India in control with two first-half goals. However, Bahrain fought back through Rashed Abdulrahman (28’) and Zeyad Aun (29’) to level the score.

Lalremruatfela restored India's lead in the 38th minute before Nibas Meetei Wahengbam struck a minute later to give the Blue Colts a two-goal cushion. Aun scored his second goal in the final minute, but India held on to secure all three points.

India Remain Top of Group K

India's victory keeps them at the summit of Group K with 10 points from four matches. Senegal and Cameroon are close behind with nine points each after recording victories in their respective fixtures.

Senegal defeated Laos 9-0, while Cameroon registered a 4-1 win over Grenada. Bahrain remain on four points, with Laos and Grenada having one point each.

The Blue Colts will face Senegal in their fifth and final group-stage match at 9:00 PM IST on Monday. The match will be streamed live on DAZN.

India Take First-Half Control

Both teams began cautiously, exchanging possession as India looked to create opportunities through R Lalremruatfela and Muhammad Sohil Khan on the left flank.

Sohil attempted a long-range volley in the seventh minute, but his effort went wide. Bahrain responded through Ridha Ebrahim, who tested India's defence in the 10th minute before sending a free-kick narrowly over the crossbar two minutes later. Nara Meitei Loushambam also came close for India with a free-kick that drifted wide in the 13th minute.

Bahrain goalkeeper Abdulla Alrowaiei denied Ngairangbam in a one-on-one situation in the 14th minute. However, India broke the deadlock two minutes later when captain Birjit Singh Amom set up Ngairangbam, who finished confidently from the edge of the penalty area.

India goalkeeper Jenit Ningthoujam then produced an impressive save to keep out Abdulrahman's attempt. The Blue Colts doubled their advantage in the 19th minute when Lalremruatfela won possession in the attacking third and fired a precise left-footed shot into the far corner.

India went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

Bahrain Fight Back Before India Strike Twice

Bahrain returned from the interval with renewed intensity, while Deepak Singh Arambam sent a volley over the crossbar in the 26th minute after receiving a cross from Birjit.

The match turned dramatically in the 28th and 29th minutes as Bahrain scored twice in quick succession. Abdulrahman reduced the deficit with a powerful long-range strike into the top corner before Aun headed home a delivery from Sayed Alalawi to make it 2-2.

India responded with determination. In the 38th minute, Soumojit Sarkar delivered a diagonal ball into the attacking area, which Lalremruatfela controlled superbly before finishing to restore India's lead. The goal was his fifth of the tournament.

Just a minute later, Lalremruatfela advanced down the left and picked out Nibas Meetei Wahengbam at the far post. After his initial header was blocked, Wahengbam reacted quickly to smash the rebound into the roof of the net, extending India's advantage to 4-2.

Aun scored from distance in the final minute to give Bahrain hope, but India held firm to seal a hard-fought 4-3 victory.

India Face Senegal in Decisive Group Clash

The win guarantees India a top-three finish in Group K. However, the Blue Colts will need a positive result against Senegal to strengthen their position at the top of the standings.

A victory over Senegal will guarantee India first place in the group and qualification for Tier A of the competition stage. A draw could also be sufficient, provided Cameroon fail to defeat Bahrain.

With the group standings finely poised, the final fixture against Senegal promises to be a crucial test for Bibiano Fernandes' side as India look to finish the group stage on top.
