Pakyong, September 1: Additional District Collector (Development), Pakyong, Sangay Gyatso Bhutia, along with District Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Coordinator and Block Coordinators, visited the Waste Treatment Facility at Martam to assess waste management practices and explore measures that could be strengthened across Pakyong District.
The President of Pakyong Nagar Panchayat and the Municipal Executive Officer (MEO), Pakyong Nagar Panchayat, also participated in the visit.
The team examined the facility’s waste management process, with particular focus on collection, segregation, processing, treatment and disposal of different categories of waste. Officials observed how biodegradable, recyclable, non-recyclable and other forms of waste are separated and processed through appropriate methods.
The visit also provided an opportunity to review measures aimed at reducing the volume of waste ultimately sent for disposal. Officials studied the operational procedures followed at the facility and the role of scientific segregation and treatment in improving overall waste management.
The district and block-level officials, along with representatives of the Nagar Panchayat, discussed practices that could be replicated or further strengthened in Pakyong to improve solid waste management.
The visit further highlighted the need for greater coordination between government departments and local bodies to ensure effective implementation of solid waste management measures. The officials also stressed the importance of promoting sustainable and scientifically managed waste disposal practices to improve cleanliness and environmental management across the district.
