SORENG, SEPT 30: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, addressing the pre-157th Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at Reshi on Tuesday, highlighted the State Government’s welfare initiatives, infrastructure plans and efforts to create new opportunities for the people of Rinchenpong constituency.
Speaking at the programme organised by Gyanodaya Sansthan at the Reshi Government Secondary School playground, Tamang said he would resume his visits to different constituencies to interact directly with people and understand their local concerns and aspirations.
The Chief Minister highlighted schemes including Aama Yojana and Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana (SGAY), stressing the need for proper identification and verification of beneficiaries so that government assistance reaches those genuinely in need. He said the Aama Yojana currently covers beneficiaries across 32 constituencies and would be expanded further.
Tamang also pointed to the growing number of students from the constituency pursuing MBBS with government financial assistance. He said the achievements of students, including those from government schools, reflected the improvement in the State’s education sector.
On employment, he said the government was regularly creating opportunities by rolling out vacancies. On infrastructure and connectivity, the Chief Minister said funds had been allocated for several road projects in the district and directed officials to accelerate construction after the monsoon. He assured that pending road works would be completed comprehensively.
Tamang further announced plans to shift the Forest Office to the former BAC office at Soreng, while the existing Forest Office site would be developed into a Parking Plaza to address growing traffic and parking constraints. A dedicated parking facility will also be developed at Rinchenpong.
Highlighting entrepreneurship, he cited the example of mathematics teacher and trout farmer Arpan Gurung, whose venture, he said, was facilitated through the government’s sabbatical leave provision.
The Chief Minister also announced annual financial support for content creators producing reels and digital content to disseminate information on government schemes and initiatives.
He called upon the people to uphold the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and work collectively towards the development and progress of the State.
